Jardin de plantes vivaces - IMMOVERTL'appellation "Plantes vivaces " ou parfois " Plantes pérennes " n'a pas de sens scientifique précis. Lorsque le jardinier parle de plantes vivaces, il pense à toutes sortes d'espèces dont l'avantage principal est de repousser chaque année après avoir passé l'hiver en plein air.Chez la plupart d'entre elles, les parties aériennes meurent durant l'automne et il n'en subsiste plus qu'une touffe de feuilles, quelques rosettes ou parfois des bourgeons qui restent cachés à fleur de terre jusqu'au renouveau.

Et puis le jardinier n'a pas pu résister à la tentation d'y ajouter de vrais arbrisseaux comme la lavande ( lavandula ), l'armoise arborescente ( artemisia arborescens )ou les hélianthèmes ( helianthemum ) qui se marient bien aux vivaces, se multiplient et se cultivent comme elles. C'est la raison pour laquelle ils sont proposés avec elles.
Enfin, comme à chaque règle, il faut une exception, quelques plantes, plutôt bisannuelles, figurent aussi parmi les vivaces, car elles se ressèment seules. Ainsi, elles réapparaissent chaque année, sans qu'il soit nécessaire de les replanter.
 
Plates-bandes de plantes vivaces - ImmovertLorsque l'on évoque leur résistance au froid, on parle de rusticité. Les plantes dites rustiques ou très rustiques s'adaptent à tous nos climats même les plus rudes. D'autres, venues de régions plus clémentes, sont dites peu rustiques.
 Elles réclament une protection contre le froid. La diversité des plantes vivaces est si grande qu'on les sépare en groupes particuliers: les vivaces de plate-bande, de rocaille, les graminées, les fougères, les aquatiques, etc....
